I desire for the student to learn as much about themselves as they do their instrument. I believe that piano and voice are conduits for expression of emotion and thought and are extremely beneficial in helping students find confidence and awareness. My main motto is that EVERYONE can make music and so I encourage all types of people to learn at my studio. Hello, I'm Mackenzie B.. I'm currently a student at the University of Kansas for a Bachelors in Music Education. I am student teaching currently, which is my last step before receiving my degree. I currently work with Kerry Marsh for the KU Jazz Singers and enjoy singing both classical and jazz music. I also have two or three ukuleles and enjoy jamming with an acoustic guitar. My teaching style is obviously very different from a lot of other people. I like to set clear goals with my students rather than setting goals by myself to give to my students. My methods vary greatly dependent upon the needs of the student. For younger students, I start with early fundamentals (music in general, breathing, and confidence) through easy songs that are recognizable and fun to learn. As a student ages, the voice matures, so I assess a student's vocal qualities and give them appropriate rep through their voice changing. For teens and adults, I focus on finding appropriate pieces that are in line with a student's preferred genre. Read More
