From 2006 to 2010 I sat first chair in the symphonic orchestra at Lees Summit West High School (Lees Summit, MO) and was even a member of the Missouri All-State Orchestra all four years. From 2011 to 2014 I earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Production at the McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul, MN. My teaching experience began when I was in grad school, where I taught a few students at a local high school. Since moving to the KC area eight years ago, I have been consistently teaching and gradually building my private studio, which now has over 20 students! I love working with young singers (specifically grades 8-12) and helping them find the potential in their voices.  I have encountered the full range of ability levels, from very experienced (had lessons before, sung multiple solos in school choir, had lead roles in musicals, etc.) to complete novice (no lessons, no choir experience).  My overall approach to lessons is the same, regardless of ability level: consistent improvement from week to week using vocal exercises, songs, and an exploration of breath and the physicality of singing. While there are certain etudes that I give to many of my students such as Schradieck, Sevcik, Kreutzer, Rode, and Dont, I do not go by any particular violin "method" in my lessons. Rather, my lessons are catered to each student's individual differences and characteristics. Every student has his/her strength and weakness, and they are not always the same among the students. I carefully look at what needs most attention on each student, and come up with the best approach that I could think of based on my knowledge and experience as a violinist and teacher, so the student can overcome the difficulty in the most efficient manner. If a student wants to work on composing, that will be the focus. If the student wants to work on sight-reading, we'll focus on that.
