I'd teach close friends, friends of other family members, and it was then that I began to realize how rewarding teaching can be. When I finally became employed as a teacher at the beginning of 2015, having up to 20 students per week, it became even more clear to me that I could really have been finding some sort of a calling. Very few things feel as amazing as watching another's excitement unfold as he or she makes apparent progress on his or her instrument. Read More

Each of my days begins and ends with music, and I'm always excited to share my passion with anyone. While attending University of Illinois, I was a part of the Illini Mentoring Program for 2 years, where I worked alongside at-risk youth in an after-school volunteer organization to foster one-on-one relationships, promote learning, and have fun with the mentees. I truly loves performing music live for others, and while at U of I was part of various groups through the college such as the UI Latin Jazz Band (led by Tito Carrillo) and the Black Chorus (led by Dr. Read More

The ultimate goal for my teaching is to cultivate students' passion for music and their musical talents. I strongly believe that every individual student is different in terms of background, personality, and learning progress. My teaching approach is completely student-oriented, aiming to develop their musical skills and characters as unique individuals. I include step-by-step challenges into my lessons that are just challenging enough to keep my students feel accomplished without frustrations. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Voice Acoustic Guitar

for beginning students who are children and just starting out, i typically start with the basic elements of either voice or guitar, depending on which lesson you have chosen. once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire which is age - appropriate of course, in hopes of preparing them for a first recital, perhaps. for adults, i try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I have been teaching since I was a senior in high school. Over the last 10 years I have come to realize that all students learn differently and all will encounter problems in different ways. Some students will overcome these challenges in a few days, others it may take a few months. I know because I was one of those students where it took a few months. I always tell my students that I will do everything I can to help them as long as I can tell they are practicing (and I will be able to tell). Read More

For beginner's, I do typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books. For intermediate, I'll evaluate what materials they've used thus far in their lessons and go from there. If someone is familiar with a set of books in a positive way, there's no reason to change the books they're using. I do believe, however, there is profit in a variety of repertoire, so a diverse lesson is key. I have learned from experience that simply learning one genre (classical, jazz, showtunes) is less desirable than having a familiar ear to multiple styles. Read More

Instruments: Piano Violin Viola Clarinet

I have been teaching lessons since High School. Back then, I mostly taught beginner students on the Piano. Since College, I have expanded my teaching repertoir to include Piano, Organ, Violin, and Viola. For the past 7 years, I have been teaching and instructing my students on the best practices as blossoming musicians. Nothing can make you a better musician than practice and consistency. No matter what genre of music you are interested in, you must practice. There will always be times were you have toforce yourself to practice (because it won't always be fun), but the gains are never dull.It has been my experience that those students who apply themselves diligently, love to play the songs that they have mastered over and over again.
