I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. I focus on this as a primary value in my studio. In lessons, we'll use formulas and concepts to understand "why" things sound good, and "how" we actually get better. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Clarinet Oboe English Horn
My teaching experience goes back to when I taught piano lessons in high school. Since then I have continued to teach private lessons throughout college. I now teach music at Kansas City Public Schools. One of the key components to my teaching is helping my students find a way to enjoy making music. I like to provide fun supplemental activities as well as their regular lesson books. I also enjoy finding my students as many performance opportunities as possible so they can show off their hard work! Read More
Instruments: Piano Violin
I'm following traditions of a famous Russian school. I have very strong technical training and musical abilities. “To understand, and to cause to be understood" – these words sum up the end and aim of my style.” Until we understand the music, we’ll not succeed at playing it so that others also understand it. With time, we learn more and better ways to communicate musical ideas. I expand our understanding of what is possible, and I find more of the subtle subtexts and interplay within the music. Read More
Instruments: Drums
Every person is different. It's the most interesting and important aspect of learning an instrument. What you sound like on your instrument is completely unique to you. For this reason, I don't believe any one curriculum, class, course or YouTube tutorial will work best for everyone. Of course, all of those things will play a role in a student's development. However, I believe working with a student means understanding their goals, even if they themselves are unsure, as well as guiding them through the traditional and professional aspects of drumming. My main priority while teaching is to encourage and uplift my students. I never want to tear any of them down. To me, nothing is more rewarding than seeing your students face light up when they nail what they have been practicing. Each student will progress at their own pace and that is perfectly okay. I want each student to set a goal and we will work hard until that goal is accomplished. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
I will give my student a scale, and Etude and a piece from violin repertoire. My essential teaching style is based on the Galamians Principles of Violin Playing Teaching. I believe that starting with fundamentals of violin techniques, left hand and right hand techniques is essential. After mastering the fundamentals, students are able to grow into their own musicalityand find a connection between the techniques and interpretation, where I would teach the importance of musical phrasing and understanding the structure of a piece of music. Instruments: Cello
I am a 23-year-old cellist from the Kansas City area, and I have been studying the cello for 12 years and music for 14 years. I am currently a student at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, majoring in music education. In addition to cello, I have experience studying all the other string orchestra instruments as well as piano. Over the past few years, I have taught violin, viola, cello, and bass to students.
