My teaching experience began when I was in grad school, where I taught a few students at a local high school. Since moving to the KC area eight years ago, I have been consistently teaching and gradually building my private studio, which now has over 20 students! I love working with young singers (specifically grades 8-12) and helping them find the potential in their voices.  I have encountered the full range of ability levels, from very experienced (had lessons before, sung multiple solos in school choir, had lead roles in musicals, etc.) to complete novice (no lessons, no choir experience).  My overall approach to lessons is the same, regardless of ability level: consistent improvement from week to week using vocal exercises, songs, and an exploration of breath and the physicality of singing. I have experience in teaching voice and drums, dating back to my last semester in college. I have been able to teach young kids the absolute privilege of singing and performing. I really encourage my students to keep practice and warm up times at the top of their priority list. Improving your voice and performance abilities starts with warming up. I also encourage them to enter as many competitions as they can, as well as auditioning for as many shows across the country as they can, so that they can be noticed and people can see what they can do! I've been singing and banging and strumming on things since I was 3 years old. I have played and sung all over the world and the U.S., in Cathedrals, Symphony Halls, arenas, ampitheatres, bars, and back lawns, and studios, making just about every type of music I can think of. I graduated from Kansas State University in 2018 with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance and a minor in Theatre. Over the past 5 years I have had 7 beginner piano students and 10 voice students of varying levels. I have taught ages 5-10 for piano and 11-20 for voice. I currently teach online via FaceTime/Zoom, am available to go to students homes or host them in my studio. I began helping my friends work through their music when I was 19 at Missouri Western State University, and eventually cultivated a bustling studio of students through word of mouth. I now teach full time in Zoom and in person with house visits, or at my home studio. I love to see my students grow and develop a deeper passion for music. It is important that the student makes progress at his or her own pace. I encourage setting realistic goals in their practice and in our lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps keep the student motivated to become a better musician, and makes students eager to learn more. Dr. Pittman traces his vocal lineage all the way back to the father of Bel Canto sinigng, Francesco Lamperti, and I am very fortunate to have learned from this excellent singer. Dr. Pittman instructed me in a very organic manner that focused on the position of different muscles and bones that are involved in the anatomy of singing.
