Instruments: Voice
I believe that private voice instructions demands a tailored and customized approach to each individual student and his or her voice. As such, much of my instruction is based on what I hear happening in the singer's voice that moment. However, I have many exercises and resources to aid in the lessons. The first few lessons may seem tedious, as I usually spend this time becoming familiar with my student and his or her voice. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For beginning students who are children, I like to start with Hal Leonard's Piano for Beginners. Progress will depend on the students' willingness to learn and practice as well as encouragement from their parents. For students who already have an understanding of basic fundamentals, I will assess their skill level and select music appropriate for their progression and level of play. Adult beginner students are more than welcome to use piano books. Read More

I believe that practice is the most essential part of learning piano and so many lessons are spent teaching effective practicing techniques that will prevent disinterest or burnout from making music. While my teaching style is relaxed, I expect each student to always be doing their very best. I desire to work with the parent and student to create a curriculum and set of goals for the student based on their individual skill set and work ethic. Read More

Hello, I'm Mackenzie B.. I'm currently a student at the University of Kansas for a Bachelors in Music Education. I am student teaching currently, which is my last step before receiving my degree. I currently work with Kerry Marsh for the KU Jazz Singers and enjoy singing both classical and jazz music. I also have two or three ukuleles and enjoy jamming with an acoustic guitar. With KU Chamber Choir I was able to go to Greece over the summer and be a part of an international experience. Read More

My goal as a private educator is to find what each of my students enjoys about learning music. When sequential learning is introduced, along with material that motivates, this encourages dedication and progression. I believe most students learn best when they feel they have input in some of the learning process. My students are also encouraged to participate in competitions and recitals. Having a goal to work towards aids in accomplishment and motivation. Read More

I am a creative, goal-centered and insightful instructor who has spent many years dedicating her life to excellence in music. My primary instrument is piano. I'm an exceptionally gifted sight-reader and love to pass on some of those skills to my students. While I specialize in accompaniment, I've given some lessons for a variety of other instruments as well. I graduated in April 2018 with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from Illinois State University. Read More

My teaching experience began when I was in grad school, where I taught a few students at a local high school. Since moving to the KC area eight years ago, I have been consistently teaching and gradually building my private studio, which now has over 20 students! I love working with young singers (specifically grades 8-12) and helping them find the potential in their voices. I have encountered the full range of ability levels, from very experienced (had lessons before, sung multiple solos in school choir, had lead roles in musicals, etc.) to complete novice (no lessons, no choir experience). My overall approach to lessons is the same, regardless of ability level: consistent improvement from week to week using vocal exercises, songs, and an exploration of breath and the physicality of singing.
