I use my own methods which I have developed over time and have used successfully with hundreds of students. I also employ method and technique books tailored to the individual student's needs and skill levels.

My teaching experience began at age 18 after being approached to do so.  I taught off and on throughout college and began seeing students regularly once I was working as a professional musician.  Whether in the Boston area or Las Vegas, where I am currently based, I have always had a private drum studio where I meet with students on a weekly basis for private instruction. In Massachussetts, I was the principle drum instructor at a Montessori Elementary School and a drum instructor at a music shop, both for several years.  There is a lot of satisfaction in seeing a young eager drummer come into my studio, wanting to learn whatever they can, aborbing everything I have to teach them.  Watching my students grow, giving them various tools to work with and catering to their interests within music, is extremely rewarding.  I see progress in student I have and I will continue to foster their talents to the best of my ability for as long as I can.  This is my way of giving back to the present and future drumming community.

As previously mentioned, i do believe in the saying that the best you can do is good enough. I expect students to practice equal to the amount they wish to improve. How quickly or slowly someone grows on their instrument is often a simple result of time spent working. But making music is incredibly fun and i make every effort to keep the time spent doing the study fun.  For the drums i tend to buy into the philosophy that playing a first complete rhythm on the drumset as soon as possible, regardless of how basic it may be is important for keeping a student motivated. Although i have taught many students the way i learned which was only on one drum for the first few months to focus on rudiments (the fundamentals of drumming) as well as the skills of reading music and the various parts that make up good technique.      A couple of my tried and true favorite books to teach from are: Beginner: Haskell Harr Drum Method and Alfred's Drum Method Intermediate: New Breed by Gary Chester, Stick Control, and the classic Progressive Steps to Syncopation by Ted Reed Advanced: Advanced Funk Studies by Rick Latham, Patterns by Gary Chaffee and  Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer by Jim Chapin

I truly enjoy seeing a student progress and find a passion for playing music. Depending on a student's learning style and speed, my methods of teaching will change. Some students will want to be challenged, and I can take things very rapidly or focus on weaknesses and slow things down based on a student's skill level. There are so many ways to teach teach a student, and I am not subject to only one of those teaching styles. However, a student must want to learn in order to make progress on his or her instrument.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
