I help my students to first build a musical foundation. I motivate my students to practice consistently until they develop their own intrinsic motivation and aesthetic sensitivity to music. I allow them to bring in world music from other cultures or pop music and arrange and adapt it to their levels. The Shapiro Project has recorded two albums with my original music and is getting ready to record the third at the end of 2018. I have received two Fellowships in Composition from Nevada Arts Council, as well as numerous ASCAPlus Jazz and Pop Awards, and an honorable mention in the Billboard Songwriting Contest. I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference.
