Overview:
I am a classical violinist teaching in the Henderson/Las Vegas area. In 2008, I received my bachelor's in violin performance from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado, and in 2010, I received my master's in violin performance from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Before moving to Nevada, I performed with various professional orchestras in Colorado and Wyoming, including the Fort Collins Symphony and the Cheyenne Symphony. I love teaching ages 8-adult and work hard to teach each student in the way they learn best rather than sticking to a rigid formula.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching in 2005 as an undergraduate student and have taught consistently since, in both private and group lessons. I focus on Suzuki and traditional methods, depending on the needs of the student. I believe that all students learn differently and that lessons must be flexible to accommodate the learning style of each individual student. I have experience teaching all ages and enjoy working with adults as much as with children. I encourage adults who think it's too late to learn an instrument to give it a try! I've had a lot of adult beginners grow to love playing and learn more than they thought they could.
METHODS USED
Though I do not strictly follow the Suzuki method, which involves learning by ear, I often use the Suzuki books and incorporate elements of the method into lessons for students of all ages. This way, students can focus on learning to play violin without struggling to read music at the same time. Separating the two skills can help beginners pick up the instrument more quickly. I will always help students with note reading once they're ready but do not require they start at any particular stage. I strongly believe that fundamentals need to be the basis for learning. If students are not comfortable with basics such as posture, bow hold, and how to produce good tone, they will not be able to learn more advanced techniques. Because of that, I don't let students work on music that is too advanced for them. In our lessons, we will always work together to figure out the students' goals and a realistic plan to achieve them.
LESSON STYLE
I believe that no one system works for every student. My main focus in teaching is to find the best way for each student to learn and to enjoy playing. I know that if the student doesn't like their lessons, it makes it more difficult to learn and may lead to that student deciding they no longer want to play. In each lesson, we will work on as much technique as possible, but as long as students continue to learn and are motivated to play, I won't push them beyond what they are ready or willing to do.

Kayleigh makes me feel like "I've got this" even when I know her ears must be splitting. (I'm having a little problem with bowing control.). But she keeps telling me I'll get - and I am progressing!!!

Kaleigh is always on time and gets right to the lesson. She seems to be knowledgeable in her trade. She is soft spoken and seems to be a gentle spirit; perfect for our granddaughter. After only 4 lessons, I feel it is too soon to give more of a review, but she seems to be working out well for us.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
