I like to keep things simple. I focus on breathing and diction exercises and I like to discuss with my students about their performance. My style is very friendly and open and I will push my students to succeed. Singing comes down to muscle memory and each session with me is a mix of working out the mind and vocal muscles. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Alfred piano series books( lesson, solo, theory and technic book) and Elementary method trumpet book, Essential elements.Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. More than anything else, I try to grow a love for the cello and music, because without a passion, lessons can be a drag (trust me, I know!). I try to incorporate some of the student's other interests into the lessons, ie. pop music, art, even science! My students have been accepted to college conservatories with scholarship, have perform solo at Weill Recital Hall and Symphony Space, had many successfully audition for youth orchestras such as New York Youth and Westchester County Orchestra, and have had individuals receive score high marks at NYSSMA that earned them entrance to All-County and All-State. I have been teaching for 8 years, getting my start in my home town of Nyack, NY teaching jazz combos and private lessons at the Nyack Summer Music Camp.
