Overview:
I'm passionate about starting students as young as three years old. I love cultivating an environment for young ones that both excites them and keeps them learning as much material as possible from the get-go. Young students are incredibly smart and spongey and I love learning from my own students the growth and knowledge that is actually possible to cultivate in young students. I have students ranging from beginner to advanced of all ages, adults are also welcome. I'm happy to travel to my students homes or have you take lesson at my home studio.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for over 10 years. I have experience teaching students of all levels and ages. I have taught for a number of institutions in the New York City metro-area, including The Harmony Program, Tone Academy of Music, Hunter Elementary Music School, MusicWise, Silver Music School, Brooklyn Conservatory and I currently hold a private studio at my home and travel to my students homes. Before moving to NYC, I was a substitute teacher for the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School.
METHODS USED
My teaching method is a combination of Suzuki and traditional method. Growing up I got an education in classical cello, jazz music, and theater. I'm happy to teach any of these genres of music you might be interested in. Possible Lesson Materials you will Purchase: 1. Suzuki Cello, volumes 1-9 and Compact Disc 2.Position Pieces for Cello by Rick Mooney, Summy Birchard press 3.Thumb Position for Cello by Rick Mooney, Summy Birchard Press 4.Double Stops for Cello by Rick Mooney, Summy Birchard Press 5. LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is a combination of Suzuki method and traditional method. Having learned with the traditional method, I feel it is vital and extremely important for students to learn to read music from the point at which they start reading books and words, this is typically at age 5. For students under age 5 we begin learning everything by ear, once they start reading we introduce reading notes. I'm passionate about having a parent present for every lesson as it is extremely important that a parent or caretaker learn the material so they can be the teacher at home during the week for practice sessions.

Melody has been teaching my nine year old daughter since she was in kindergarten. And I cannot sing Melody's praises enough as a teacher. Melody is patient, thorough, and precise with her instruction. The cello is not an easy instrument to learn, but Melody's compassion and encouragement help kids develop a trust with her, which you will see pay off in the long run. Melody is a solid teacher and you will see your child thrive under her instruction.

Melody is a wonderful teacher! She has taught me for several years and I have made incredible progress ever since. She puts a lot of focus on the right technic and understanding all aspects of playing the cello. She is very flexible with her schedule and comes all the way to our place for the lesson. Melody is wonderful for somebody who wants to learn the cello and thoroughly understand all the aspects of playing and learning to read music, she is very kind but holds me to always do my best. Thanks for being an amazing teacher Melody.
