I'm a quietly passionate instructor motivated by my love of music and my students. In 2016, I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a Minor in Music. As an undergrad, I often found my love of music creeping into my major coursework-- including my thesis! I've loved practicing and performing for over a decade (which is also more than half of my life!). My experience as a formal teacher began just over a year ago, when I took on a beginning student who had never played the instrument before. I have also been a tutor and mentor to my peers since my high school days when I was a section leader in our symphonic and jazz bands. and captain of the marching band. I use the Piano Adventures method for most of my beginners. I generally include materials from a variety of sources, especially if the student needs more work in a particular area. I do have other methods that I use as needed, Piano Pronto, Supersonics, and Carol Matz Interactive Piano. There is also the option of going method-less, focusing on the skills that are in each piece of music. I teach mostly Classical up to advanced level, jazz for begginers and also Klezmer and Folk styles. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing any of my students develop a passion for music and especially the style he loves.
