Some of my earliest memories are from learning how to read music. I've been involved in piano and violin for most of my life, beginning both early in elementary school. I studied privately for roughly ten years under various instructors while in school. And so I ensure that our lessons consist of lots of musical moments with instruction, feedback, follow up, and accountability built into the lesson time at moments when it will be motivating and not intimidating. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
