Overview:
When I was growing up, one of my favorite memories is listening to my grandfather play bluegrass on his guitar and banjo. He gave me my first guitar at age 12 and started to show me chords and patterns to play. But it was when I first heard led Zepplin's black dog opening riff that I knew I wanted to rock. I then started teaching myself by ear with an old record player and my guitar. I started to recognize the sounds I was hearing and being able to pick some of them out on my guitar. I was hooked, I have since never stopped writing and learning music. I now play varies styles but my love and passion for rock still shines through in my playing. Music is my passion and guitar is my chosen outlet to express it.
EXPERIENCE
I started playing guitar as a kid in around 1996 and started playing live with bands in 1998. Since then I have had the privilege of playing.touring and doing session work. I started teaching at Encore music in Port Richey Florida in 1999 and since have done lessons on and off in varies formats. I have played in many bands over the years and have taught hundreds of students. I am always learning and growing as a musician and I really enjoy sharing my passion and skills with others. I am new to the Utah Valley area and I look forward to showing my passion for music new students here in the Utah Valley area.
METHODS USED
I approach teaching with starting with a solid foundation for beginners. Starting each lesson with some warm-up exercises to help develop the dexterity and coordination playing the guitar demands. Then we start learning chord structure and scales, starting with the major and minors. I teach them riffs and songs that use the chords we are learning to aid in memory retention. we continue to build on these basics until they have a strong foundation. Then we move on to lead structure and techniques. I teach to give the students what is needed to be a modern musician in the real world and all the tools they need to learn any piece of music they are interested in long after I'm no longer teaching the student. I take them from beginner to advance with everything they need to be a modern professional in the real world.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is to keep things relaxed while learning the discipline and focused needed to master the instrument. I teach them how music is made and structured, not just how to play songs. I teach them how to learn the songs rather than just showing them how to play it. I give them all the tools they need to be a strong musician and a profession in today's modern world. I teach them how to break their plateaus and become the best player they can possibly be. My goal is to help them be independent and well-rounded musicians.
