I subscribe to the Faber and Faber Method, Suzuki Method and Bastien Classical Series for beginning students. The repertoire is supplemented with technical and sight reading exercises. I especially subsribe to the Hanon Exercises which are a great tool for building finger strength, dexterity and technical mastery. I expect my students to have a firm understanding of a variety of scales and chords (considered to be the building blocks of music) for which I subscribe to the Guild Musicianship Book as a good starting point. Piano:  I have played piano since I was 7 .  I have been teaching piano privately for the past 5-10 years in my home or in a studio.   I encourage students to learn to read music well and also learn about the composer and the musical intentions behind each piece. Harp:  I have played harp since I was 18 and perform regularly.  I have taught privately for the past 5-10 years and I can teach various techniques and repetiore that I have learned over the years.  I also believe and want to pass on love and respect for the instrument. My mother was a trumpet and piano teacher and I grew up with lessons going on in the house constantly. My father was an English teacher for 35 years! I have enjoyed thirty years of private lessons, teaching all ages a variety of styles of music! My sister is a violinist that plays in the Stanford Symphony! I hold two Undergraduate Degrees from Bard College (flute and dance) and a Master's Degree in Flute Performance from Queens College. I have a very strong background in Alexander Technique and Body Mapping.
