Instruments: Trumpet
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with practice away from the horn building their breathe control and mouthpiece buzzing. I will introduce them to Carl Fischer's Arbans Complete Conservatory Methods for Trumpet and other technical studies w/melodic expressions. Read More

I began teaching private lessons during college but I have always shown people how to play instruments my entire career. I have always had a knack for both learning music and teaching it. One thing my students would say about me is that I am patient. Everyone learns in a different way and there is not one way to teach someone to play a song or read a sheet. Initially I learned by ear but my journey has lead me to advance my playing through non traditional routes such as learning from others along the way, reading sheet music and watching lessons online. Instruments: Piano Trumpet
A book that I use for lip slurs is the Irons book, this book contains extensive exercises for lip flexibility. I also use a lot of exercises that I either learned from other trumpet players, or ones that I made up on my own to target specific things. As far as what I use for teaching jazz, all of what I teach, I either learned through listening to jazz records, or learned from other seasoned jazz musicians. Read More
Instruments: Piano Clarinet
As previously stated, my teaching style is a proper balance of positive encouragement and personal accountability. I always keep my lessons moving forward in order to take advantage of all time allotted. Within this framework, I enjoy a casual back-and-forth with my students to keep things friendly. I am always amazed at how much I learn from my students in lessons and I believe treating them as contributors to the lesson allows them to connect personally to what they are doing. Read More
Instruments: Drums
Adapting to a student's needs is one of the fastest ways to stimulate passion and progression. I try to be as adaptive as possible regarding each student's needs, interests, strengths, and weaknesses. I genuinely care for each student I teach, not only as a musician, but also as a person. I also like to keep my students in a constant state of listening and learning, always discovering new music and learning new songs. Read More
Instruments: Piano Keyboard
I began teaching my first student when I was in high school. I enjoyed it so much that I decided then that I would incorporate teaching piano in my future. After I had my twins and became a stay at home mom, I began to teach students in my studio. I was instructed by two professors for almost 20 years in private lessons. I have played for more than 300 weddings, funerals, and receptions. Read More
Instruments: Voice Music
I have no expectations of my students until they show me what they're capable of. After our first two lessons, I start to really stress the importance of practicing on their own time as well. Singing is part muscle memory and your muscles can't memorize what they aren't consistently doing! I use a very kinesthetic approach to my teaching in that I focus on how the entire body feels when my student is singing the correct way versus how it feels when they are singing incorrectly (unhealthily).
