For beginning students, I always start with technique and posture, as improper technique can be catastrophic to your playing down the line. From there we'll cover the basics, such as chord shapes, strumming patterns, and scales. On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. It's all about having a clear goal in mind and working towards it: we'll have conversations about objectives and musical preferences (classical? jazz? rock and pop?) and then develop goals based on those preferences (playing live? what kind of pieces/songs?). Teaching for 12 years and playing for 18 years has really inspired me to cater to every age, and the student’s personal goals and their particular culture as there are no limitations to my style. I have experience creating music programs for church ministries, learning centers, music academies and more. To see a student who has a serious passion for music grow from not knowing anything about the piano or drums to making music is probably one of the most fulfilling feelings I could have. Upon moving back home in the metro Atlanta area after graduating, I began doing various clinics for high schools in the Dekalb and Fulton county areas in preparation for the schools spring concert band festival.
