Lessons will feature a warm-up period, followed by review of material from previous lessons, playing of new material, and wrap-up with sightreading and assignments for next lesson. Students are often encouraged to self-evaluate and set their own level of rigor. I believe in a collaborative approach that involves questioning students and having students ask questions of themselves. More than having students be able to perform technically, I want students to have an understanding of music and their instrument intimately, from their own awareness, rather than rote explanation or practice. I conduct my beginner lessons with a spirit of play. I believe this engages the attention and energy of the student, promoting deeper learning. My students build self-esteem by mastering new skills. Skills are taught in a sequential way so all students can feel successful. I teach students how to practice so that each student learns how to accomplish their goals. Regular practice is an important part of piano lessons and advances musical understanding as well as muscle flexibility and control. Read More

My teaching experience began with my junior year in high school. After having withheld the majority knowledge necessary for my own particular developing-repertoire; i began to instruct and tutor my peers personally. In what time that I received to cultivate this desire of mine--to teach, i noticed that my transmittance to the youth was as a medium between what appears to be more transfixing than actually so. It was found that the results were rewarding, in me having been able to see how much a difference the presentation of knowledge makes in matters of retention. Read More

Students are not the same therefore each method is different. The introductory lesson is used to get to know the student and what it is that they need and a program or methodolgy is designed based on that student's needs. For singers, it’s difficult to sing without acting, even if it is as yourself. One method I use is to teach acting and singing together. The art of performance is necessary. Read More

Ever since, I have taught piano at different schools and studios in different states for all ages with all levels. I have incorporated various styles and genres in piano teaching, in order to have my students exposed to different kinds of music. My lessons are fun yet motivating for learning in depth. Read More

For beginner strings I use several method books (elementary and 6th students can come with prescribed method books from their public school teacher) such as Essential Elements, Orchestra Expressions, String Essentials. If parents would like to use solo books, I use Suzuki Method Books (not necessarily the method of only learning by ear) in conjunction with note reading workbooks. As they age I use other method books (violin, viola, cello. double bass) such as Wohlfahrt, Mazas, Kreutzer, Flesch, Schradieck, Dont, Bach Sonatas and Partitas, Rick Mooney's shifting and thump position book series, Klengel, Bach Cello Suites, Popper, PIatti, Smandl Method, Fischer, and of course as they advance any standard sonatas and concerti, such as Mozart 5 in AM, Mendelssohn in em, Hadyn Concerto in CM, anything from the Baroque, classical, and romantic era. This positive reinforcement not only fuels their desire to improve but also cultivates a sense of pride in their achievements, making them eager to take on new challenges and explore more complex concepts. In addition, I strive to understand what inspires each student on a personal level. By identifying their interests and preferences, whether it be a particular genre of music or a certain instrument, I can customize my teaching approach to better align with their wants and needs. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
