I have been studying drums for well over 17 years! I love playing, learning, and teaching drums. It's all I ever think about. I began studying Jazz drumming throughout high school, and have performed, toured, and recorded with many bands since. I have become locally acclaimed with my affiliation for local Utah music festivals such as Desert Rocks Music Festival, Powellpalooza, Uncle Uncanny's Summer Sessions, and Psych Lake City. I like to play along with the students because I want them to hear what more experienced players sound like too. Often the goals for students depends on demands from school, so it is important to establish these based on school requirements as well as personal accomplishments the student may have. For young beginners, I recommend starting with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for Band. Once the student has grasped the fundamentals, we will introduce solo pieces appropriate for the child's skill level and purposes (preparing for a performance vs learning for fun, for example). For older students, we will work quickly to establish a firm knowledge of the fundamentals before moving on to more complex pieces based on the student's interests. Read More
