Instruments: Drums
I've been teaching drums for over 10 yrs. This included teaching at a music school and a music academy. I was taught by some great teachers, one of which teaches back east and is well known. He teaches all over the world online. I took his mentorship program and found it to be quite fun but challenging too. I've played in several bands that played shows and venues here in Utah. Read More
Instruments: Bass Guitar
Artistic pursuits (like becoming a Bass Player) ALL have two common methods. First, one develops their Techniques and Technical Skills. Second, one uses those techniques and skills to express themselves as a musician - that is, YOU PLAY MUSIC. My Teaching Method follows these guidelines. If it sounds simple, it is! Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Euphonium French Horn
I have found success teaching when I can relate what we are doing on the trumpet to other elements of students lives. When I was teaching in Boston, the only thing my kids seemed to care about was Angry Birds. After learning the song by ear, we would talk about the basic music theory behind the song and put names to the notes we just learned. Read More
Instruments: Piano
I tend to be more laid back and relaxed. I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes, improvisation and creating their own sounds without fear of harsh criticism. I set up goals for each student based on their interests and what I feel is going to help them advance. This will include genres they may not like but I want to give them experience with a variety of different sounds and rhythms. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For most students on piano, I typically use the Faber series to learn technique and theory simultaneously. It’s important to be able to gain that knowledge of theory early to help students be more independent. For adults on piano, we would work together to find repertoire to fit their skill level and interest to keep things engaging and relevant. Voice is much more individualized since every instrument is unique. Read More
Instruments: Voice Trumpet French Horn
I have been teaching music professionally for well over a decade and pride myself in knowing that I give my students all of the tools they need to succeed. Encouraging regular practice is essential to progress and improve on personal technique - both for me and my students. Because I expect my students to practice their individual assigned material, I practice it at home as well. I have found that teaching by example generated some incredible results. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar
My favorite thing in the world is seeing someone I teach fall in love with music. Because of this I find it most important that my students feel comfortable and not rushed or pushed to hard, I believe music comes best when studied at the students own pace. If there is something you want to learn or a goal you create then I will help you get there, if theres something that doesnt make sense and you want to recap it then thats what well do. Read More
