Instruments: Guitar Acoustic Guitar
I believe that the best way to learn how to play is to play what you like to listen to. Practicing the repertoire is as important as the mechanical and technical practices of the instrument. Based on this, I often try to identify the techniques used in the songs that the student likes and whenever possible, we work on the technical part applied to a given song. This way, studying becomes more enjoyable and dynamic. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola
Each person is different. Because of this, I always make sure each student is going at their own pace. At the beginning of the year, I sit down with each student and we set goals for our playing. I want students to feel motivated and inspired always, and to practice because they love it- not because they feel forced. I have competitions within the studios to motivate practicing, and talk about what we can do at home to make the violin/viola more fun. Read More
Instruments: Piano Synthesizer Harmonica Recorder Keyboard
Each student has his profile, so I seek to adapt the methodology of teaching according to the individual needs and personal choices of each student. For beginners looking to learn to read sheet music, I usually adopt the books of Michael Aaron or James Bastien (for small children). For those students who wish to develop their musicality without reading shuffles, I teach through imitation learning, the development of auditory perception and creativity. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I'm a quietly passionate instructor motivated by my love of music and my students. In 2016, I graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a Minor in Music. As an undergrad, I often found my love of music creeping into my major coursework-- including my thesis! I've loved practicing and performing for over a decade (which is also more than half of my life!). From receiving my very first "Band Student of the Month" award in the fifth grade to helping soon-to-be-fifth graders achieve that goal themselves, I cannot express how much I love this instrument and the opportunities it has provided. Instruments: Flute Piccolo
My approach to teaching will largely depend on your age, experience, and goals for playing the flute. At each lesson, we will set attainable goals and discuss effective practicing methods. As I stated above, I am flexible for teaching as far as which method books and repertoire to learn. No matter what age or skill level, I find that tonal exercises, scales, and etudes to be paramount in helping students to improve their flute playing skills. Read More
Instruments: Cello
My name is Ashtyn T. I began playing cello in 2006 and have been teaching private lessons since 2016. I was accepted into EAC on a full orchestra scholarship and played in both the Chamber and Symphony orchestras there in 2019. Now I am taking classes at Utah Valley University, on track to graduate with a BS in Psychology with a Minor in Music. I am currently in both the Chamber and Symphony orchestras at UVU, and I am studying one-on-one with Dr. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Ukulele Acoustic Guitar
My method/my style is as mentioned above: My focus is always on the individual student, their music interests and goals AND having a BLAST! My "style" is centered around enjoyment and realistic accomplishments, so the atmosphere is REWARDING! I do begin with foundational skills, music theory that is applicable to the knowledge level of my students, and technique building. However, I want my students to start to play songs as soon as possible and we only work on songs that THEY choose - I do not force students to learn songs that I select or songs that a book tells them to.
