I teach music the same way language is learned, as both involve learning to listen, speak, write, and read. I start students off with the skill of listening as I demonstrate how the instrument is played, and then move them into "speaking" by guiding them in the basics of technique that will allow them to begin producing basic sounds. While still in high school, I discovered that I love watching others realize their own musical potential. I began with tutoring my peers and enjoyed it enough to take on students of my own. My teaching had to take a pause during my college years, but I have been looking forward to the freedom to teach again! I try to help my students feel comfortable with themselves and their abilities because it can be frustrating to not understand a concept immediately or progress as quickly as others, and I want them to enjoy the music while they're playing rather than comparing themselves to others. If it is a snare drum part that a student is struggling with in band class or a songthey want to play on drumset, technique will always play an important part. I have been playing trumpet since the summer of 2006 and have been in love with the art form ever since. I am also an advocate for historic music performance practice and an avid avant-garde performer. I hold degrees from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program and the Eastman School of Music. In addition to these degrees, I have received graduate level training from the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK and the Boston University College of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Read More

I have been studying drums for well over 17 years! I love playing, learning, and teaching drums. It's all I ever think about. I began studying Jazz drumming throughout high school, and have performed, toured, and recorded with many bands since. I have become locally acclaimed with my affiliation for local Utah music festivals such as Desert Rocks Music Festival, Powellpalooza, Uncle Uncanny's Summer Sessions, and Psych Lake City. Practice doesn't make perfect; PERFECT practice makes perfect! The best way to develop a skill is to work consistently and carefully, which is why I encourage all of my students not just to practice until they get it right, but to practice until they can't get it wrong. That being said, students must work at their own pace for this method to be effective. Together, the student and I will set realistic goals at each lesson, allowing the student to feel a personal responsibility in achieving progress. Read More
