As a tutor, I assigned homework regularly and kept students accountable by checking for completion and accuracy. I focus on vocal technique from lesson 1. I listen to the radio plenty, but if there's a popular song on the radio at the moment, it's more than likely being sung in an unhealthy way. Shawn Mendes, Sia, Demi Lovato, Charlie Puth, and Mariah Carey are incredible talents...however they sing in an incredibly unhealthy manner. I also teach them basics to Music Theory, such as note names and how to read music. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more advanced repertoire as they gain confidence in their ability.
