I have had the privilege of teaching piano, composition, music theory, and improvisation to students of all ages for more than nine years. I have also taught chess at schools and programs throughout the U.S. I have organized educational initiatives for prestigious arts institutions including National Sawdust, Red Bull Arts NY and Abrons Art Center NY. Students I have taught range from ages 4-80, and include a wide range of professions and personalities, including visual artists, chefs, atomic physicists, families, teachers, classrooms of up to 20 kids, as well many other musicians. I center the way I teach technique around what "feels" good to a student, especially older students who have already started, to make sure that we are able to prevent and respond to injuries. So, I start with stretching and will frequently refer back to exercises that are meant to integrate physical ease into playing. Aside from that, I try to balance a consistent routine/expectation of things I want to cover (asking for things a week in advance, always playing a scale at the start of the lesson, etc), while also meeting a student where they are at on the day. When it comes time to begin working with a student, I always ask them what is their dream, their vision, and what is their reason for picking up a musical instrument. Their goal doesn't have to be rock stardom but they have to want to learn! I encourage setting up realistic goals, and giving them tasks and tools to pick up along the way. Based on my own experience as a touring musician with a career ahead of me, I feel like I have the tools to give my students the inside tips and knowledgable nuggets. Read More

My methods differ depending on the students. Im from China where music academies and music schools are mostly designed for people to become professional musicians due to cultural issues. Music is a tool rather than a passion. That is also how I perceived piano playing when I learned piano in China. I was pressured to practice at least 4 hours a day since I was in grade school to become a pianist regardless of my willingness. Read More
Instruments: Violin
I'm very kind, fun, determined and adventurous. Music is my passion. I love it so much. When I practice, hours fly by a second. Always think of how to make the music more interesting colorful and expressive. When I play, I connect myself to the audience with my music, wishing my emotion would touch their soul. I like to try different approach to the music to make it fun and inspirational. music is fun that's one of he very important reason we practice. Read More
Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion Orchestral Percussion
I believe the proper technique is essential in order to be a successful percussionist. We would start by how to hold the stick properly, whether it be matched grip or traditional grip. From there we would move on to how to properly hit the drum and bounce the stick. The first few lessons are usually all about technique and approach and we would mainly stay on one drum or surface, but after that we would move to the drumset or another area that interests the student.
