Hi! I've had a love for music since I was very young. I started playing piano at eight years old, violin at eleven years old, guitar at around the age of seventeen, and have been singing ever since I could produce the sound, taking private vocal lessons in high school and college. I am classically trained in piano, violin, and voice, though I now play mostly Christian contemporary/worship, pop, country, and indie/singer-songwriter/folk music on all four of my instruments. I am 29 years old and have been playing music since I was 9 and actively playing in bands since age 15. Starting with classic rock and blues, I slowly began to encompass a wide variety of styles into my playing, like funk and reggae. I graduated from Wake Forest University in 2013 and actively played jazz with the music program in addition to having an independent student band. After graduating, I moved to Spain for a year and played acoustic guitar all over the country. Read More

I tend to work with students on a one-on-one basis. I start by showing the student how to get a sound out of their instrument, and then I lead a student through their first scales. I almost always play the piece or scale first, as I have found learning to read music is far easier to learn when the student already has an idea how the music should sound before they try to play the piece. My teaching style is fairly relaxed, a student needs to enjoy the lessons or we are really wasting our time. There is no reason for music lessons to be dreary, almost all of my students enjoy their lessons and have no problem coming back week after week to be challenged again. For advanced students I really want to focus on the music you really want to play. If its your dream to play light classics for friends and family, then we will work on that. Read More

Because everyone is at a different point in their abilites, each student's lessons will be customized to fit where they are, whether it be at beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. If a student specifically wants to learn a specific style or styles, then the lessons would focus on that. If they desire to be the most well-rounded in all styles, then the approach would fit that. It depends on which direction the student needs or wants to go. Read More

I approach teaching according to each students learning style. I want to be able to reach all of my students by understanding how they learn and how it help them to improve on each lesson. Setting goals help students reach their purpose and dreams. I believe private lesson is a good option for various students because it gives the students to learn at his or her own pace. As I teach, I want to enhance their creativity, innovation and originality in learning and playing their instruments. Read More

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
It helps with structure when you want to learn the bass guitar. Practice time is very important. Practicing effectively is even more important. Effectively practicing helps with finger coordinationp. You will be able to sit down and say, “I want to learn about blues for a month.” After you get down finger warm-ups then you get into a few transcriptions you want to know about. You write them out. Then spend a few hours on just listening to the blues songs. This is practicing effectively. Get down warm-ups every practice session then get into a genre and master it!
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Once your child talks about the instrument all the time, it is time for them to get music lessons. The lessons will be important and your children with thank you. I say this because even though YouTube is amazing and you can learn from there, a teacher in real-time is better. The student can develop a bond with the student and share personal ideas on learning the instrument. A child should never be given am instrument just to leave it to themselves to learn it. They will never learn it the way that it is intended to be learned. The child would thank and appreciate the parent for getting them an instructor.
When will I start to see results?
The time period where the student and parent will begin to see result will vary. It will completely depend on if the child retains information from the lessons. If the child can successfully retain the information from each lesson, learn the material given in his/her personal time than no later than a month will be the time frame wher results will be seen. If the student does not understand the information and I have to go over it more and more than 6 weeks will be the time framer where results will be seen.
Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Growing up, I always had an eye for the bass. I really liked to hear how the instrument sounded on the radio. It always fascinated me by the look and the sound. It was so unique to me that a string instrument only had four strings and the neck was so long. From then on I began to think about it and what I would do if I had one in my possession. I enjoyed how it can have various strings and tunings and layouts. I knew that I was sold. So from that point on I began to picking the instrument out of a whole band. I was so happy to begin playing and learning that I never looked back.
