Hi! I've had a love for music since I was very young. I started playing piano at eight years old, violin at eleven years old, guitar at around the age of seventeen, and have been singing ever since I could produce the sound, taking private vocal lessons in high school and college. I am classically trained in piano, violin, and voice, though I now play mostly Christian contemporary/worship, pop, country, and indie/singer-songwriter/folk music on all four of my instruments. I love to write songs of my own as well. I am currently studying Worship Leadership at Visible Music College in Memphis, TN, where I am in the midst of pursuing my bachelor's degree.
I am just 20 years old, and while I am still a growing musician and teacher myself, I have had experience in teaching lessons for the past three years. I started teaching private lessons on acoustic guitar a couple years ago, and I have also taught classes of vocal, violin and piano students. Currently I am teaching piano and violin classes at the Salvation Army in Memphis. I have found a joy in helping students develop a love for music, as it was my first piano teacher at the age of eight who played a part in developing my love and passion for music. He made it an enjoyable and fun experience for me and I desire to do the same for any student I get the privilege to teach. I love exploring the untapped potential in my students, celebrating with them when they understand a new concept or learn a new skill on their instrument. One of my favorite things is watching my students grow as musicians over the time I get to teach them. Music is an excellent way of expressing oneself and I even believe it to be another language, so I love to share it with anyone I can.
My desire is for all of my students to know and learn proper technique. For beginner students, I will start with theory basics that are foundational to learning and can be directly applied to their instrument. Once they gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals, I will introduce more complete solo repertoire that they can begin to work on. Depending on the interests, learning desires, and level of the student, I will move forward with what interests them, though I may require some classical selections as I believe it to be a style foundational to a great musician.
I tailor my lessons to each individual student. Students learn at different rates, so, therefore, I want each student to progress at his or her own pace, without comparison to where my other students may be at. I want learning an instrument to be an enjoyable experience, and though the student may have to do and play practices, exercises, and pieces that they may not necessarily enjoy in the moment, it will all be beneficial to him or her in the long run and I will incorporate pieces and selections that interest them as well.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
