Instruments: Piano Voice Trumpet Trombone Recorder Euphonium

I began teaching trumpet privately 44 years ago. Over the years I have added voice, beginning piano, trombone, euphonium, and recorder to my studio. I encourage each student to practice several times a week for as long as they can. I find that some students like to practice in one sitting, whereas others prefer to practice for 10-15 minutes before taking a break and then returning. I convey to each student that working at your craft for 10,000 hours will make you an expert. Read More

Helping students achieve their specific goals is very important to me! If they are passionate about a particular style of music, composer, or piece, I will help them reach that goal! I am willing to meet them wherever they are musically. I think it is important for the student to work on a variety of styles and pieces at any given time at their level, so they have a diverse musical palette. Read More

Nothing is more important than seeing all my students sing as well as they can. All my stuedents progress at there own pace. I try to find out what inspires my students and what they would like to sing and then from there i find the best pieces for them to sing. Read More

Then the next part of the lesson would be focused on a particular song. I also am happy to work on music theory and music literacy skills with students. Read More

During lessons, I emphasize consistent weekly practice times, music genre variety, theory, improvisation and parent involvement in the lesson plans. Recitals have proven to be very helpful in building the students confidence and awareness of their personal and musical improvement. Read More

My methodologies for teaching will vary based on different factors such as age and level of musical knowledge. I do like to use established books that focus on the fundamentals of music such as the Hal Leonard Guitar Method Books. Literature like that is very informative, but also a bit clinical at times, so I always like to find out what my students want to play and tailor lessons towards their specific goals. Read More
