I also worked as a tutor at Berklee College of Music during my study. Dicipline may be the most important thing to emphasize in the very beginning stage of learning. But I see learning piano more as a creative process, encouraging students to have a personal connection with the instrument by introducing songs they know, helping them to write simple songs and so on. These method books, in my opinion, have motivating pieces and give the students a solid foundation in theory and scales. I also use supplementary materials such as Dozen a Day, Czerny, Kabalevskiy.
