A short time later, after being hired as an accompanist at a local string studio, I was hired as a string teacher within the studio, where I taught for several years. I began teaching when I was an undergraduate music student. I was assigned as a tutor for a failing ear-training student and was surprised to discover how much I genuinely enjoyed helping him develop his innate potential. Together, he and I began to explore and uncover pathways that enabled him to overcome the hurdles in his path. The process was very creative and rewarding, and it required us both to feel safe and work together creatively to find a way to improve his vocal ability and auditory capacity. Read More

Since then, I've been teaching for 6 years in the public and charter school systems. At my current employer, Little Black Pearl Art and Design Academy, I orchestrated a master class with Israeli artist, Idan Raichel. My vocal and rap students performed with him during that class and were invited to perform with him at Chicago's City Winery and Ravinia Pavilion in Highland Park Illinois. I also performed along side him, playing piano and received high praise for my "sensitivity to the art" and collaboration with him. Read More

I began teaching people how to play instruments when I was in high school, by teaching new students to the band how to play percussion. I then continued teaching once in college by volunteering at local high schools helping new students to the band programs learn brass and percussion. From there I worked with the Rich South high school band director and the Jack Hille middle school band directors. Once I graduated college I taught choir and instrumental music for the catholic school system for two years. Read More

I started teaching towards the end of high school and continued in college and beyond! I found it beneficial to be teaching students while still being a student myself. Having great teachers in my life has shaped my own approach to teaching. I discovered that when I was able to study what I was truly excited about, my capacity to learn and improve my craft increased exponentially! One of my greatest joys in life is observing a joy in piano! Therefore I strive to administer the elements of music to the student's learning style, how they would use piano for their own enjoyment and for their families enjoyment. Each student is different with different goals, desires, learning styles, and objectives. Teaching according to the individual's learning style, expectations, desires, and goals is critical in piano development. The teacher must discard the concern for only the superior students in his studio because some students have learning impairments and put the individual first. Read More
