I started teaching privately over 5 years ago, from my college apartment bedroom, and ever since I have been consistently teaching. Some students come and go, but I have some that have remained over the years. I believe that music is all about inspiration, which then leads to motivation. If I as the teacher can find something that inspires a student to be motivated to improve on their instrument, then I've done my job! Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 4 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 2 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and folk music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the violin and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I am a high energy trombonist looking to spread some artistic expression to students of any age. I graduated from the University of Iowa in December 2018 with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Trombone Performance with an additional K-12 Music Education Certification. I marched 6 years of world class drum and bugle corps with the Colts in Iowa, was the drum major in my final two years and was also the featured trombone soloist in my second year as drum major. From there, I may ask the student to try to repeat a segment of what they played that I found particularly interesting or illuminating. Along with demonstrating to the student certain technical and sonic patterns in their use of the instrument, this repeated process also allows me to identify a concrete path forward that is based uniquely on that student's apparent learning style, tastes, and current technical limits. Therefore, proceeding with the essentials--note names, pitch collection, techniques, and basic melodic and rhythmic concepts--can be contextualized within my knowledge of the particular student. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Each student is provided a weekly practice journal. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
Instruments: Voice Music
I will first start with warm-up. I will start with some scales. Then I will work on breathing techniques, and then posture. I will also explain the biology of vocal cords. Along with songs that they plan to sing for recitals, I will also expect them to bring a song that they would like to learn, because I don't want them to forget why they chose music in the first place i.e because they like it. Instruments: Saxophone
It was because of this grant that I was able to attend the Boston University Tanglewood Institute for Saxophone Performance, where I took lessons and studied with some of the North Shore's greatest saxophonists, such as Ken Radnofsky and Jennifer Bill. For several years in a row, I have attended the Massachusetts Music Educators Association conference and took a variety of different masterclasses centered around education and musicianship. In the future, I would like to return to college to get a Master's Degree in Music Education, and continue to take inspiration from the music educators before me. Read More
