For younger beginning students, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Alfred's Kid's Guitar Course 1. For older children, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Guitar for Kids: Hal Leonard Guitar Method. Students are able to progress through the Suzuki Guitar Method through multiple volumes, or move through the Hal Leonard Guitar Method - Book 1 and continue through subsequent method books. For a classical guitar approach, I use the Suzuki Guitar Method, the Fredrick Noad Method Books, and the Christopher Parkening Guitar Method Book. Read More

They learn scales, intervals, vocal warm-ups, basic improvisation, repertoire (based upon requested style), different vocal techniques, arpeggiation and articulation exercises. For vocal technique I mostly use Bob Stoloff and Michelle Weir books, but I am always adding new material following today's industry. I also incorporate bacic production and arranging techniques, so my students have an opportunity to produce their songs and creat online profiles with their songs. Depending on the level of the student, there are three structures of lessons I provide.The course for beginners includes introduction to sound, keyboard of piano, touch, playing from the scores, synchronization of hands. It is taught with easy classic exercises and well-known pieces like Scarlatti sonatas,Czerni etudes and Bach's two/three voice inventions. During intermediate level course the main focus is on pedals, basic dynamics of performance, two-three voice patterns and phrasing, Finally, the last but not least, the course for advanced students includes introduction to the form of classical sonatas of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, virtuoso etudes of Chopin, Liszt, more complex articulation and more complex romantic pieces like Hungarian Rhapsodies,Ballads and Scherzi. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I like to go slow at first and see how things go lesson by lesson. I never like to challenge my students too much in the beginning because it can be rather frustrating to continue learning music. I like to spend a little bit of time assessing what level a student is at so I can appropriately guide them to where they need and want to be. Early on I stress the importance of self evaluation and critical thinking, as it is priceless to be able to teach oneself using these analytical skills.
