Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a love for music!. Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I always aim my students' optimum learning, encouraging challenges themselves. Acknowledging accomplishments and performance opportunities help to fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I take a student-led approach where I assess what a student is interested in and then create a repertoire of music for them to learn from. I like to teach concepts through example by showing students songs and pieces related to what they're working on. I try to start from the ground up as much as possible. I take students from learning notes on the strings to playing scales and chords, all the way to having them play and write advanced material. Read More

It is so important for my students to know that I am here to help them and that they have their own individual path. It is not about improving quickly but really understanding and loving what they are doing. I try to find ways to inspire my students so that the whole lesson is productive and fun. I love sharing my love for music and inspiring my students to know the power that music holds. Read More

My own musical education draws upon not only more than two decades of experience learning with professional musicians from all over the world, but also my varied extra-musical experiences including, but not limited to: competitive swimming, photography, weight-lifting, and kinesiology. Through this multifaceted lifestyle, Ive come to realize that success as a musician is not only based on dedication to the craft. Through thoughtful connections made across various aspects of our lives, its possible to find solutions for seemingly unrelated problems. Read More

I work with one of three methods books: Mel Bay, Hal Leonard, or the Berklee Guitar Method. I gauge this based on the age, skill level, and their time available to practice. Mel Bay is the easiest method to begin, whereas Berklee is more advanced and moves at a faster pace. Sometimes I slow Berklee down and combine it with Mel Bay as a teaching strategy (Mel Berklee, perhaps?). I also am not afraid to use alternative teaching methodologies or notational systems, such as tablature and internet resources, as I think these are vital materials that are relevant to how people interact with, consume, share, and learn music today. Teaching for me works best on an individual level. Students work on different levels and languages concerning music, and you have to be able to adapt to them. Some people might understand everything from the get go, some students need graphic support, some student need to learn song to understand what they are doing. The important part of being an instructor is not the actual material to be taught but being able to clear the way for the student to learn and teach himself, as well as providing a direction towards understanding the instrument and music through the taste and necessities of each student. I encourage every student to be the masters of their own musical development, first and foremost. I tend to treat every lesson as a consultation session, and we will get into the practice method that is appropriate for the student's given musical strengths and weaknesses. I guide them through some practice, and continue to give them next steps. I stress a commitment to a solid warmup routine. Like other pursuits, this routine is very crucial to the maintenance and development of ability. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
