Overview:
I'm a versatile drummer/percussionist who loves teaching and sharing knowledge about music and arts in general. Graduated from Berklee College of Music with a full scholarship I've been performing and recording around the U.S for the last 4 years. Performances has always been my principal interest but currently I'm deeply involved with teaching because I have been developing a new way of learning instruments based on a more conscious state of mind involving meditation, all this thanks to my studies in Qi-Gong (Chinese Art of Movement)
EXPERIENCE
I was born into a family full of musicians and I was thought how important and helpful it is to learn an instrument for anyone not only professionals. At 12 years old I started performing and at 14 I started teaching thanks to my dad (drum instructor) who introduced me to the amazing experiences of sharing knowledge about music. Since then I haven't stoped teaching and searching for information to share with anyone interested. Played in all kinds of stages from small private gigs to stadiums, this helped me create a very realistic method for anyone interested in playing an instrument in any kind of music, my experience comes also from Studio and Live recording sessions where patience, professionalism and good actitud are key to succeed. After performing and teaching for about 10 years, now, I still get super excited to learn music or teach anyone, at any age with any goal.
METHODS USED
For kids or beginners we will start with the 10 most important rudiments, focusing on a good posture and technique. Learning songs is also a huge part of my teaching since I discovered I'm not only teaching them to play the music but also to embrace the fact we are working on art and we have to be passionate, once the student is passionated by the instrument my job as teacher is almost done. For experienced drummers, I've worked with many different styles, soloing and transcriptions; from modern electronic music or metal to jazz or marching band books, every student will have a specific method depending on their own interest. Besides that, all my lessons involved a short part of my studies about Qi-Gong (Chinese Martial art discipline) helping us warm-up and heal possible problems related to overplaying, stress, bad posture, etc. Leading us to be able to meditate while playing.
LESSON STYLE
Teaching from basics to advance concepts, academically, hand on hand with self-awareness and focused on the state of mind and how it affects to our bodies and the sound we create. Introducing my method with meditation through the drums based on Qi-Gong discipline (Chinese art of movement) looking to solve modern problems such as stress, fear, or pain affecting not only to musicians but to anyone in general. Reading, Recording, Composing Grooves and styles such as Rock, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Metal and Techno focused lessons. I embrace the fact every student is different therefore I love creating new methods to reach their goals.
