Along with voice I find it important that a student understands and grasps the concepts of general music theory and the history of the pieces and composers of which they will be studying in hopes that such information will create an even deeper understanding and love for music. I'm an enthusiastic, energetic, kind and dedicated music instructor. As passionate as I am about music, I am even more so about the students I teach. I graduated from the University of Connnecticut, Storrs, with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education in 1972, and a Master of Music degree, with a concentration in Piano Pedagogy in 1980. As an undergraduate my major instruments were piano and trombone. I was in the UConn Marching Band and had the great fortune to perform on my trombone in Europe during the 1970 Marching Band Tour. I grew up in Germany and started taking classical guitar lessons at age 10. After my dad took me to some Rock concerts, I wanted to learn the electric guitar. The two concerts that had the biggest impact on me during that time was seeing Yngwie Malmsteen and catching his pick as well as seeing Gary Moore. I include the parents as well in this conversation for the younger students, as I find that some parents want their children to learn how to read beginning at a young age.
