My musical life has been extraordinary. Born in Mpls. MN, I attended the Aspen Musical Festival before my departure to Vienna Austria for Master studies in Violin/viola and piano. Scholarship intended for one year ended up a 25 year tenure, teaching, performing in Vienna and raising a family. I returned to the US to become executive director of a music school in MN. I was able to start new after school music programs for elementary schools throughout the district, start an orchestra program and open a theater program for kids. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet
For beginning students, I like to focus for the first few weeks on playing scales and songs without written music, and I continue to incorporate learning by at any level. When I begin using written music I use the Accent on Achievement or Essential Elements method (I am also comfortable with other standard elementary methods and would be happy to use whatever method a student's band director is using), which is a good place to start whether or not the student already reads music. I'm a recent graduate of St. Olaf College who has just settled in St. Paul. I've had the opportunity to perform with Minnesota Opera and will soon be performing with the Gilbert and Sullivan Very Light Opera Company. My interests range from opera and sonatas to pop and jazz, and I love to explore new avenues of musical creativity. My studio exists to give beginning and intermediate singers and pianists of all ages the confidence and ability to produce high quality music with ease. Read More

Over the years I have done everything from playing in the local "Battle of The Bands", opening for rocker Marshall Crenshaw with my band "Caf Society" and playing with jazz great Vincent York at The Montreux Detroit Jazz Festival. I have been teaching for over 20 years and really enjoy teaching and helping others, whether they want to play for their own enjoyment. Read More
Instruments: Violin Viola Flute Piccolo
For young beginning flute students, I typically work from Rubank's Elementary Method and supplement with my own exercises and additional pieces. After the first year or so, I supplement with technical exercises and the Melodious and Progressive Studies and move on to solos from a number of other books. For violin and viola students, I typically work from the Suzuki books and supplement with scales, shifting exercises, and etudes. While there is progression of technical and musical concepts to work on, I tailor specific music assigned to the student's interests and needs. Read More

I like to make each student feels special, valued, and encouraged. I have coordinated student recitals, met with parents to discuss progress and future plans in both school settings and private tutoring. I strive to help my students enjoy the process of understanding and making music. Thus, my lessons often include such activities as ear training, theory, history, sight reading, technique, and repertoire. Read More
