Hello! My name is Sarah and I am a first year graduate student studying flute performance major here at The University of Minnesota. I received my bachelors degree in music performance at Michigan State University. Music is my passion and I want to share my passion to the world! I have been classically trained for over 13 years and would love to share my knowledge and love for the flute with you! I am an active member in large ensembles at the University of Minnesota, and was placed in the top ensembles at Michigan State University for three consecutiveyears. I am also an experienced in chamber music, and my woodwind quintet, Quintessential Winds have played concerts around the Lansing, MI area. We have performed master classes for members of Eighth Blackbird and Imani Winds.
Teaching is something that I love to do! I have experience teaching flute lessons for 3 years and have had students of all ages, from beginner to advanced. I mostly teach classical music, but I can also help with music for school band, pop or rock music and general musical theory. I was a music assistant at an elementary school for two years. I assisted the primary music director with general rehearsals for grades kindergarten to 6th grade. I helped the children learn musical instruments such as the recorder, bells, and percussion instruments.
I do not have one style of teaching that I prefer to use with my students. I strive to make each lesson plan based on the student's individual needs, desires, and goals for their lesson time. I believe that this makes the material more attainable and more engaging. As I get to know my student's learning styles, I can adjust my plans to meet there different needs. I am able to make a comfortable environment for my students that make lessons fun, because music is fun! Having fun while working hard is the best environment for learning!
All I want to see is my students thrive grow in their musical abilities. I use a lot of positive reinforcement in my lessons to help the students become confident and strive for excellence! I also try to get to know my students well enough to know what learning style best suits them and what will help them continue to grow in their musical studies. I strive for my students to develop the skill of making realistic goals, and finding a way to meet those goals. I have found this to be helpful for not just their musical growth, but also personal growth as well.
Sarah is great! My granddaughter is always so excited for her flute lessons. The very first lesson, Sarah had her making sounds and by the third lesson, she was learning some simple notes, songs. Definitely recommend her.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
