Overview:
I am accomplished music instructor and performer with more than five years of teaching experience and over thirteen years of performance experience. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities under the tutelage of Immanuel Davis and hold a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Michigan State University studying under of Richard Sherman. Along with my private and volunteer teaching experience, I have also played an active role in the University of Minnesota and Michigan State University’s student ensembles; Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Musique 21 Contemporary Music Chamber Ensemble, Chamber Music Wind Ensemble, Opera Theater and Symphony Band.
EXPERIENCE
As an advocate for fine arts education, I come with an understanding of the tremendous value that music brings to the lives of all people. I personally believe that music education should be accessible to anyone no matter what background and I strive to make every student feel welcome in my studio. My experience lies in teaching comprehensive music lessons, particularly in the flute, to all ages and levels. From beginning fundamentals to more advanced repertoire, I possess a keen ability to mentor students, encouraging them to live into their musical goals and aspirations while cultivating an environment that is enjoyable and engaging.
METHODS USED

I do not have one style of teaching that I prefer to use with my students. I strive to make each lesson plan based on the student's individual needs, desires, and goals for their lesson time. I believe that this makes the material more attainable and more engaging. As I get to know my student's learning styles, I can adjust my plans to meet there different needs. I am able to make a comfortable environment for my students that make lessons fun, because music is fun! Having fun while working hard is the best environment for learning!

LESSON STYLE
I want to see my students thrive grow in their musical abilities. I use a lot of positive reinforcement in my lessons to help the students become confident and strive for excellence! I also try to get to know my students well enough to know what learning style best suits them and what will help them continue to grow in their musical studies. I strive for my students to develop the skill of making realistic goals, and finding a way to meet those goals. I have found this to be helpful for not just their musical growth, but also personal growth.

Sara has a good ear and perception of what I'm doing as a student. She caters her approach to my particular experience level. She is very encouraging, yet at the same time constructively critical, helping me focus on the things that will help me best improve. I was initially skeptical of remote learning via video, but I have found our sessions to be very worthwhile and productive. Kudos, Sarah!

Sarah is great! My granddaughter is always so excited for her flute lessons. The very first lesson, Sarah had her making sounds and by the third lesson, she was learning some simple notes, songs. Definitely recommend her.
