My teaching style works with many different personalities and ages. What I found is that it works best with parents and students who are committed and disciplined in their violin practice at home. It is important for all three of us to realize the commitment we are making when we start our lessons together. Our relationships will thrive with open communication and hard work from each of us. I enjoy getting to know each student's learning style and encouraging them to achieve excellence. Read More

My desire is for all of my students to know and learn proper technique. For beginner students, I will start with theory basics that are foundational to learning and can be directly applied to their instrument. Once they gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals, I will introduce more complete solo repertoire that they can begin to work on. Depending on the interests, learning desires, and level of the student, I will move forward with what interests them, though I may require some classical selections as I believe it to be a style foundational to a great musician. For piano students I highly recommend the Alfreds books for beginners. After you have some background we can work with the music of your choice, classical, jazz, pop, RnB etc. Some of my specialties include teaching people how to turn chord charts into music, how to improvise and how to use music theory to improve your understanding of music. For guitar I do not use any books as I find most guitar method books to be very old fashioned and not inviting to the student. Read More

Because everyone is at a different point in their abilites, each student's lessons will be customized to fit where they are, whether it be at beginner, intermediate, or advanced level. If a student specifically wants to learn a specific style or styles, then the lessons would focus on that. If they desire to be the most well-rounded in all styles, then the approach would fit that. It depends on which direction the student needs or wants to go. Read More

I love the feeling of seeing my students achieve personal growth. I genuinely take the time to encourage each student to develop at their own pace, with focused guidance toward challenging yet realistic goals. Each lesson builds upon previous ones while continuing to address fundamentals and music reading. I like to work in a spiral curriculum where concepts repeat and grow towards higher levels of achievement. I feel that each student's wants and needs should be their primary learning achievements. My teaching experience began in high school when I first began teaching private lessons. I have taught dozens of students individually in the last decade. I have taught college music appreciation classes, high school and middle band as well as elementary music. My time in an elementary classroom has taught me patience as an educator and I apply that patience and meticulous attention to detail into my private studio. I am able to adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of my students as I have taught All-State caliber high school students as well as kindergarteners. Read More
