In middle school, I began performing and teaching music during the summers at Vacation Bible School for children ages 3-10. Throughout high school, as a member of a variety of bands, I performed at a wide array of venues around New England. During this time, I ventured into song writing and musical arrangement. I also spent some time giving private trombone, bass, and guitar lessons in high school. Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment. I taught students in my community orchestra, as well as a basic music theory class there. After high school, I took on a couple of private students for my college professors, whom I intermittently taught throughout my bachelors degree. For voice I create my own custon lesson plans and use a variety of materials. Students will work on a great variety of repetorie from pop to renaissance. Students are encourgaed to learn to read music, with a great emphasis placed upon practical music theory. I aim to develop intellegent musical artists, foscuing upon intrepretation, critical thinking, historical considerations and creativity. I supply all of the materials for my students. For beginners, I ask that they choose 5 songs they really want to learn to play. Through those songs, I can introduce many technical and musical concepts. It is very important that this is a positive musical experience.
