My lesson style consists of working on fingering and plucking first from Essential Method Book for Strings or the Suzuki book (for the beginning students who are children). While they (children) are practicing, I encourage/ recommend them to memorize the songs if they can. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I listen to the student's music selections. While he/she plays, I observe him/her how this student is adapting to the instrument. After his/her performance, I offer constructive criticism pointing out steps to adapt himself/herself to the instrument. I also encourage and push for attentive listening for tone quality. This is very important no matter the level of students. The way to listen for tone quality is not only seating straight and at the center of the keyboard, but also understand when and how to use the bony part of the fingers(closer to nails) versus the fleshy part of fingers on the opposite side of nails. Dr. Zoe L performed extensively on both the organ and carillon in her original city of Hong Kong, in Canada, and in the United States, where she is currently based. In April of 2017, Dr. Zoe L gave her debut recital at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre where she was interviewed by Radio Television Hong Kong as a "New Music Star. Dr. Zoe L. continues to perform regularly, including at the Organix Festival in Canada, and has given over fifty carillon recitals on the Lurie and Burton Memorial Towers at the University over the past two years.
