My goal is to give my students the ability to self assess. They should be able to feel when they are singing correctly, without me always pointing it out. They learn these skills through scales, basic anatomy and physiology, physical exercises, visualization etc. I am kind, patient, supportive, and always do my best to uplift my students. My favorite moments while teaching is the light bulb moments, for these to occure lessons are goal based and created around the students level of exsperiece, future goals, and personal goals. In the first lesson we set mini goals for each lesson, medium goals for the month, and large goals for something we want to work towards or a up and coming competition. I use a positive environment to help student feel good about their accomplishments, but also have them discover areas of improvement by recording them or asking them what they feel they did well and what they feel they need to work on. My teaching style is structured, practical, and student-focused. I work with beginners through adult students, combining proven method-book concepts with real musical examples drawn from well-known songs and styles. I expect effort and active participationnew concepts are demonstrated, then immediately reinforced by having students play them back. I always encourage them to practice the best they really can. It is always important in order for the student to progress, they must try their best to make time to practice, for at least 30 minutes (especially for newcomers). What I believe can help motivate them is by showing examples or sharing video clips of their favorite jazz trumpet tunes or clips. Those always help me motivate to practice my trumpet, but I hope that it can help do the same for my students going into jazz music. Read More

I use the Faber method for my beginner students. Sometimes with students who are 4 or 5 years I use the pre-beginners books from Alfred. Other times I use the Suzuki method, depending on the level of understanding. Alongside those books, I use technique books to build good, strong hand especially for young kids. As we move along I start giving solo repertoire from different eras of music to introduce the student to different kinds of music from different composers. Read More
