As a teacher I am patient and considerate. My first priority with beginner students is developing correct posture and relaxed position of hands. This is of most importance since it is difficult to change posture later on and bad posture can affect not only the quality of musical performance, but the health of the student as well. I teach reading music from the very start; thus, as soon as a child can read the letters and numbers, he or she is ready to start reading music too. Read More

I began teaching privately about ten years ago. This occurred rather organically by having conversations with people in which they expressed interest in either learning a new instrument, or expanding on their preexisting skills. Though I do have a formal music education, I did start off self-taught, learning songs from my favorite bands and artists. Because of this, I use a combination of assigned songs and songs requested by the student to help build and conceptually realize their facility on their instrument, as well as basic scale and chord theory. Of course, everything depends on what you, the student, want to learn! For younger students that are just starting, I've found the Accent on Achievement books to be very helpful in developing the basics of playing. From there, Classically-focused players would learn solo repertoire, Jazz-focused players would learn standards and improvisation, and all the other genres would begin to narrow down their appropriate fields. Adults are certainly welcome as well and I'd love to help them learn whatever they are interested in. Read More

I love painting landscapes with sounds. My goal is to share this way of looking at music with my students. I had been playing the guitar for 15+ years and I had been teaching electric guitar for 5+ years in group and personalized settings; with genres varying from Pop, Rock to Progressive metal and fusion. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2023 with a dual major in Professional Music (Performance, Jazz Composition and Composition) and Film Scoring. Read More

I am a teacher and musician living in Los Angeles, CA, who enjoys sharing my love of music with students. During my lessons students will not only have fun but learn the valuable skills they will need to succeed in any playing setting. I have recorded dozens of albums and toured internationally, opening for artists like KD Lang, Ray LaMontagne, and Coldplay. I have also performed with Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, members of Counting Crows, and Snarky Puppy. Read More

Additionally, some other books that I use with my drum set students are Syncopation by Ted Reed, The Art of Bop by John Riley, The Essence of Afro-Cuban Percussion, and The Essence of Brazillian Percussion by Ed Uribe. For more advanced students, I work on trancriptions of their favorite drummers, chart reading by playing with recordings or live musicians, improvisation over musical forms, and developing indivdual exercises for each student. Teaching is one of the greatest joys in my life. I genuinely love helping students discover their voice whether thats through singing, playing, writing songs, or simply connecting to music in a deeper way. Watching someone gain confidence, express themselves, and grow through music is incredibly rewarding, and I feel lucky to be a part of that journey. My approach is student-centered, supportive, and personalized. I take time to understand each students unique goals, personality, and learning style so I can tailor lessons that truly fit them.
