I graduated with my Bachelors in Voice from DePauw University in 2017 where I studied with Caroline Smith. Within a month, you should be able to play all the notes of the C Major scale. I will be available to answer any questions you might have, and I will make sure that you start out with the correct mouth shape, or "embouchure". This is critical to establish and get right at first, so I will make sure you start playing correctly, with correct hand placements, and such. I will start off my lessons with the Bastien Piano Basics course. The student will use a lesson book, a performance book, a technique book and a theory book. Once the student has reached a certain level, they will begin lessons in Piano Literature and John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. My adult students will use the Bastien Piano for Adults series, and they may also want to use John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. Read More

Each student is different. By monitoring the students' interest, I encourage them to set a goal ofpracticefor the month, and each month that goal time increases little by little. Understanding how to read music and music theory are very important when learning any instrument. Student will be able to play any and all kinds of music if note reading has been taught. I spend several lessons getting to know the student, what their music interests are, what they have previously learned and then tailor lessons to the individual student. I encourage them to stretch beyond the familiar while providing a very individualistic approach to their lessons. I started playing piano at age 5 and finished a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Saint Louis University. My 16 years of classical training helped me attain a teaching position at the Yamaha School of Music in the Philippines and a rewarding teaching career at the Florida Conservatory of Music in Jacksonville, Florida. For students that are just starting, I love using Bastien Piano Basic books and Alfred's Basic Piano library! These both have great selections and have all different levels to meet the student's needs. After the student moves out of these basic piano books, we can start working on learning songs and developing some solo pieces for their repertoire. For adults that are learning piano, I leave a lot up to the student because most of the time they already have something in mind that they would like to learn or work their way up to learning a particular piece.
