I like to start by exploring where the student is at in their musical education and what they are looking to study in private lessons. From there, we build the lesson around them! Once we’ve established where to begin, I’ll ask the student to choose a piece they’d like to perform and I’ll assign them a piece of my own choice as well. For my classical students I'll typically start with art song repertoire and for musical theatre I'll choose a classic piece. Read More

I love seeing my students apply what they’ve learned in their lesson and become passionate about their music education. I am warm and friendly yet still firm and hands on in my approach to teaching so that students are able to enjoy lessons but still know that they are coming to lessons to learn something. I support the student with structuring lessons based off of the needs of the student as well as student/parent goals. Read More

As mentioned above, I tailor each of my lesson to the individual student I am teaching. I am very encouraging and patient, but also like to push my students to be the best they are capable of being. Read More

I guess my love for playing/teaching music outweighed my desire for an extra paycheck at the time, which I was making playing bars and weddings on the weekend. Despite the fact that I wasn't charging for my lessons, I noticed the "students" were coming back for a different reason. It was because they were having fun. They were learning fast because I showed them ways to enjoy the beginning stages where, let's face it, nobody's good. Read More

For younger children, my methods involve using the Alfred series as the staple of the course, but I also incorporate games and some other things into the lesson to make it fun. For intermediate and Advanced students, it is a completely customized lesson plan to the individual so I can't really say what direction we take before I have had the chance to sit down and analyze their individual needs.
