I tailor each of my lessons to the needs and desires of each individual. I am fond of using method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Bruce Peterson's Standard of Excellence (or, with school children in a band program, whatever their method book may be), but I also like to bring separate handouts or sheets of exercises, drills, and songs that I have created over the years. I begin all students with the appropiate level of the Alfred's method. If they have had training with another method, I work to blend that method with the Alfred's method during the first month or two of lessons. Once the student has learned the fundamentals, I introduce them to the solo repertoire appropriate for their level and their genre of greatest interest to them. I started my internship in my junior year of high school as a middle school orchestra assistant and I have enjoyed teaching ever since. I am a current student at the University of North Florida where I am studying Music Education and participating in the UNF Orchestra. My curriculum varies depending on what instrument and style the student is learning. For orchestral string instruments I use the Suzuki method books but also others. The Simandl book for bassist is an amazing resource as well. Modern Reading Text by Louis Bellson is a great book for improving not only your rhythm reading ability but also sight reading. Hi there! I can't remember a time when I wasn't involved with music in some way. I started in the Suzuki program in 2001, so playing the violin is like a second language for me. I started playing piano at age 5 and finished a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Saint Louis University. My 16 years of classical training helped me attain a teaching position at the Yamaha School of Music in the Philippines and a rewarding teaching career at the Florida Conservatory of Music in Jacksonville, Florida. I believe in encouraging my students and supporting them, having them reach acheviable goals and having them work at a pace that is realistic I believe will develop their understanding and love for music. By combining a students interest with essential fundamentals of music I have found that my previous students have advanced their playing whilst denjoying the experience.
