For beginner piano students, I have two methods books that I use. For young children, I use the Bastion Piano Basics series. It is colorful, fun, and exciting for young learners. It is also very informative, so parents can help their young ones practice if they need the help! For beginning adult students, I use the Faber Adult Piano Adventures series, as this is more tailored to older students. I first started working with children when I was attending Florida State College. I took a course on elementary education, and did some field work at a local elementary school. It was there that I found out how much I really loved kids. I had a wonderful time in the classroom. While in grade school, I also took a liking to local music scenes and other musical endeavors outside of the academic environment and began to glean from those influences as well. Upon graduating high school, I was accepted into the University of North Florida to play euphonium. My freshman year I performed with UNF's top Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. My focus shifted to playing piano primarily and I spent the remainder of my tenure there in UNF's reputable jazz program in their top combos and big bands, working with world-renowned clinicians and staff. We toured much of the east coast and Europe. When I left the Marine Corps I put together a band that toured around the southeast. We even got invited to play the halftime show of the Hula Bowl college football game in Honolulu, Hawaii. My 16 years of classical training helped me attain a teaching position at the Yamaha School of Music in the Philippines and a rewarding teaching career at the Florida Conservatory of Music in Jacksonville, Florida.
