My teaching style focuses on each student as an individual. I do not believe in making the student look or play exactly like me in terms of technique or style. I am kind, energetic, and engaging, but I can also be strict if it is required in order to meet the student's goals. I like to make learning and lessons exciting because it keeps the student engaged and inspired. Although students can expect clarity and consistency in terms of what is expected from me, I will never deliver my lessons in an exclusive way. Read More

Within a month, you should be able to play all the notes of the C Major scale. I will be available to answer any questions you might have, and I will make sure that you start out with the correct mouth shape, or "embouchure". This is critical to establish and get right at first, so I will make sure you start playing correctly, with correct hand placements, and such. I can teach beginner level, as well as intermediate techniques, with how to play higher, practicing techniques, and a daily plan to work on .I will provide materials, technical exercises, lip buzzing, lip slurs, and more! For children, I draw influence from the organization of the Suzuki method, while still maintaining the emphasis on fun. (Learning TV theme songs, etc) Fundamentals are introduced with memorable examples tailored to the students musical interests. For all other levels of experience, I encourage the student to share with me what exactly it is that they want to learn or need help with. If the student has no idea, I will take over and decide what is missing from the students repetoire, and find the most effective way of tackling these new skills while maintaining fun. My first teaching experiences were with my father during solo and ensemble. Having hired me as an accompanist for his students, I found myself rehearsing these students moreso than accompanying them. From that point I felt encouraged to teach and help others perfect their craft. My biggest influences would have to be my past teachers, one of which taught me younger and the other as I matured. I believe that while learning to read and write sheet music, developing technique and feel, and understanding music theory are all important, the most integral part of learning an instrument - as fundamental as it sounds - is to use your ears!
