I am fond of using method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Bruce Peterson's Standard of Excellence (or, with school children in a band program, whatever their method book may be), but I also like to bring separate handouts or sheets of exercises, drills, and songs that I have created over the years. Some students want to play in a band and deal with music and performance right away, and some students want to become very technically adept at the instrument. I first started working with children when I was attending Florida State College. I took a course on elementary education, and did some field work at a local elementary school. It was there that I found out how much I really loved kids. I had a wonderful time in the classroom. My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played music for 35 years. I started on clarinet in 7th grade and soon after discovered guitar. I picked up bass in high school was awarded a full scholarship to play with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra while majoring in music. I have been a private tutor/teacher to public, private, and homeschooled elementary students since 2017. I focus on specific subjects with certain students, but some students receive instruction in all subjects including music. I am currently teaching 2 beginning piano students. I have taught occasional private flute lessons for high school students throughout my undergraduate studies and last summer, I ran flute sectionals during a local high school's band camp.
