This was an eye-opening experience as I learned various techniques and styles from some very talented and well-known musicians.I studied music theory and jazz improvisation at Newtown High School in Sandy Hook, CT before going on to obtain my B.S. in Justice and Law Administration from WCSU, graduating in 2013 (the backup plan every family member suggested). I am a very organised teacher, giving each of my students lesson notes with exercises and aspects to work on. I regularly suggest music which complements the work we are doing to strengthen the voice, create flexibility, or consistency of tone. I am a bit of a perfectionist, but I also hold myself to that high standard. If a student aspires to become a professional jazz guitarist, I teach them jazz chords, improvisational techniques and necessary reading skills. For beginning students, I tend to use the Faber Primer level course which includes a lesson book, theory book, performance book, and technique book. This set, along with supplemental material will provide your student with the backbone in music education they need to perform well in any direction they wish to take their private piano studies. For older beginning students, I enjoy using the Alfred adult piano series. I also take transfer students- in which case, we will evaluate the past methods used in their lessons and apply what is most appropriate for further study. Read More
