My curriculum consists of proper match grip technique, the rudiments, limb independency, learning to play with dynamics, and a plethora of beats and fills designed to give the student the necessary tools to become a drum machine. I write out all lessons so that the student has something to refer to once the lesson is over. I am very good at adapting to different personalities because I know from experience that not everyone learns the same way. The most important question to ask is "Are you having fun playing the drums?" It's that simple.
I started teaching private flute lessons to beginners in the Twin Cities area 10 years ago when I was in High School. I relocated to Duluth for college and continued my private teaching as I earned my degree in Music Education. Over the course of my education, I expanded my specialties to include all band instruments in the private lessons that I offer. After graduating with my degree, I taught at Solon Springs School in Northern Wisconsin for two years where I taught three band classes, two general music classes and many other music activities
With a new student I always start by getting to know their abilities and experience with the drums or any other musical instrument up to this point and then go from there. With someone starting out with no experience I begin with basic match-grip technique, striking the drum, and some basic counting to get the fundamentals down. I generally use George Lawrence Stone’s Stick Control for the Snare Drummer to introduce various sticking patterns and the upstroke/downstroke concept. After the basics I help the student decide what kind of musical direction they would like to take.

In home lessons are a great choice for busy families and students. The only thing necessary for in home lessons is the instrument! Teachers can travel to students homes usually once a week for lessons, and students should practice their drums every day to make the most progress.
Standard pieces of a drum kit include the high hat, crash, ride cymbal, and drum sticks. If a student is at the very beginning stages of their learning, they can also start with basic drum practice pad, which are quieter and less expensive. Other drums taught include the snare, bongos, conga, or djembe.
Adult drum lessons are tailor-made for your own needs and skill level. We have many adult students taking drum lessons for the first time. Drums will help you increase your level of coordination and help you achieve your musical goals.
Since drums are a very physical instrument, requiring long periods of dexterity in the hands and fingers, we suggest students start drum lessons at age 7 or 8. Additionally, a drum student learning from a drum kit should at the very least be able to reach the pedals on the drums.
Teachers will focus on learning rhythms, drum patterns, techniques and will help expose the student to various types of drumming styles. You will be recommended various types of drumming method books which will help you improve on the instrument.

My son is truly enjoying his lessons with Chris. He looks forward to them and is motivated to practice. Chris is conscientious and shows up on time and whenever he is supposed to. He communicates clearly if rescheduling is ever required and is accommodating when we need to change the day. I would recommend Chris to anyone.

Laura is a fabulous teacher. She explains concepts to me using concrete examples so that I can understand changes that I need to make to my posture, breathing, phrasing, etc. She makes warm-up exercises fun, and she's got a great sense of humor over all. Her teaching style is collaborative, more egalitarian (she respects what I already know and meets me at my level), tailored to my particular interests and strengths, and I always look forward to our lessons!

Lindsey has been coming to our house to give saxophone lessons to our 12 year old daughter for about a month. She is an absolute joy. She is extremely knowledgeable, flexible with her schedule, and my daughter thinks she is "fun" and "cool". We would highly recommend her to anyone wanting music lessons. A+

I honestly cannot say enough positive things about Rachel. We met her through CYT where my daughter took theater classes from Rachel and was directed by Rachel in several musicals. Because Rachel was so wonderful to work with and so clearly talented at teaching and directing, several years ago, my daughter started private vocal lesson with her and I have seen my daughter's vocal abilities grow in leaps and bounds. Rachel is an ace at picking music to work on that stretches abilities while at the same time, keeps vocal lessons fun. I highly recommend her as a voice and theater coach.

Vince is a great drum teacher for my 8 year old son. We go to his house where he has a studio setup with a huge drum set. He has been very patient but really holds my son responsible for learning the right way to play. After about 5 lessons, my son is playing some rhythms on the drums and reading music. He looks forward to his lessons with Vince.

My son and I both take lessons with Micheal. My son started on the ukulele and recently started the guitar. He is excellent with children. Very patient and very intuitive to the child's ability. He is also an excellent teacher for adults. I had not touched my guitar in several years and in a couple months not only to I remember everything I forgot but I'm learning many new techniques and am a much better player than I've ever been.

Unbelievably Awesome. My daughter is a beginner and has some special needs. Justin is more than patient and helpful while being completely thorough and pushing her (in a good way) to try harder. He is encouraging and teaches effectively. I am very pleased. More important, so is my daughter. Thank you Musika! So grateful we found your service and connected with Justin. We highly recommend him.

“Lynn is my music hero! She can listen to any song and write down the chords. She will adjust to make it easier or harder whatever your abilities. I have a busy schedule and often don't have time to practice between lessons and she is cool with that. She also will adjust lesson times when she is able which fits my hectic schedule. I'm glad my first guitar teacher "fired" me ....that allowed me to meet Lynn.” - Carol A., M.D., Aug 2015
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
