Also, I had the opportunity to work with multiple schools ensembles and marching bands. I encourage all of my students to maintain a constant practice schedule in order to work toward our goals. I started teaching private lessons in high school, for free, to other students in the percussion section of both the concert and marching bands. Shortly after starting as a music major at Asbury Univeristy I continued to teach lessons. During my collegiate years I also was involved in taking private lessons and playing for all available percussion-needed ensembles (concert band, jazz band, orchestra, etc.). I like to start out with the Hannon Book. That has various excercises that helps with note recognition. Worksheets will be given out with those as well. Teaching students HOW to read notes, and HOW to recognize them takes a few weeks so that's normally what i like to start with. Once they grasp those fundimentals, then we move on to learning songs they are familiar with such as London Bridge, This Old Man, Mary Had A Little Lamb etc. Read More
