At the age of 14, he began studying under Dr. Irina Tchantceva, participating in various festivals and competitions around the New England area. During his time at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Jones served as a coach for flute ensembles, taught supplementary flute lessons for undergraduate students, worked as the orchestra manager and librarian and also worked with professors as a teaching assistant.
