For beginning piano students, I usually begin with the Alfred Prep Course, supplemented with a notespeller to help expedite learning to read music. I also begin ear training, chords, and solo repertoire as the student becomes ready. For voice students, I begin with breathing, vocal technique, and skill-level appropriate songs. For all students, regardless of instrument and experience, I aim to set goals together with them and use each lesson to advance toward the completion of those goals! Read More

For my students who are more focused on skill growth, I stress the importance of putting the technique and skills I teach into context with the songs I assign. During the hour lesson, I spend roughly 5-7 minutes warming up the voice, then we jump right into working on repertoire. I like to balance the repertoire selections with an even amount of songs chosen by me and by the student to ensure that they stay engaged and enjoy learning with me! Read More

I have been teaching music for 8 years, starting while in college. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching students from ages 4 to 20 to sing and play instruments because if you're not having fun when you're doing music, you're not doing it right. I love getting to see my students have breakthroughs as they develop their own musical personalities.
