Overview:
I am a very goal orientated individual who pays attention to detail and has a passion for learning. Studying such courses as piano pedagogy, piano literature, and advanced music theory have given me the fundamentals to take my musical creativity and discipline to another level as a pianist. Working with the VSU, MGC, and CSU Chorale Singers have shown me how to work with other musicians and develop an extensive vocal repertoire. I have also performed in countless piano studio classes and student recitals as well. All of these skills and experiences have helped me reach an advanced level of learning and musical comprehension.
EXPERIENCE
I have been playing the piano for 24 years. I first studied with Mrs. Willyne Foster of Middle Georgia College and then with Dr. Larry Scully of Valdosta State University while pursuing my bachelors degree. I have also performed in countless community recitals while in attendance at Valdosta State. I worked for In Home Music Teachers in the greater Atlanta Area from 2014-2017. I also worked for Fine Arts Matters as a group piano instructor in Gwinnett co and Fulton co GA From 2018-2019. I have given private lessons for the past 14 years as well.
METHODS USED
There are typically three books that I like to start children off with which include Piano Party, Music for Little Mozart’s, and My First Piano Adventure which are designed for children ages 4-11 years old. These books help children to understand the basics of rhythm, music theory, and activities associated with the two. I generally like to begin my teenage to adult students with the All in One Adult Course series which consists of three levels from easy to beginner intermediate and also combines a mixture of classical and modern music. I also like to incorporate the Brown's Scale book in with my curriculum which ranges from basic scales (major) and (minor) of all 24 keys to arppegiated scales and conceptualizing double thirds.
LESSON STYLE
I am passionate about helping students build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music. I specialize in teaching beginner to intermediate piano students in a supportive, encouraging, and engaging environment. My lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals, learning style, and pace, whether they are learning piano for personal enjoyment, developing foundational skills, or advancing their musical abilities. I focus on proper technique, music theory, sight-reading, rhythm, and expressive playing while making the learning process enjoyable and rewarding. I believe that anyone can learn to play piano with the right guidance, patience, and practice. Watching students grow from playing their first notes to performing complete pieces is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. My goal is to inspire confidence, foster musical growth, and help every student reach their full potential while enjoying the journey of learning music.
