I tailor a student's curriculum to their musical goals and needs, while making sure that I am instilling the fundamentals needed for pursuing music at the college scholarship level. Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. To accomplish this, I use standard materials that are often available online and are used by college and University music programs around the world. I don't offer a common style of lessons with all students, instead I design a course of study based upon each student's interests, personality, and the direction they want to go with their music, and after a few sessions of working together, I like to select repertoire that showcases them well and peaks their interests. Some techniques and concepts are commonly shared within the studio, however sessions may take a different direction of music study based on discovering a student's strengths and weaknesses and how to build upon on certain areas in their training so his/her lesson is productive. With this in mind, I work with the student to find songs or pieces that they want to try and sing. If it is an appropriate level of difficulty, we will work on it straight away. My teaching style ranges from student to student. For example I love to see my students develop whether they're coming to me as a beginner, basic, intermediate, or advanced student. If I have a gospel vocal student, I work with them on rifts and runs. If I have a classical piano student I work with them on fingering techniques. I love working with younger students because it's important to remind them of the importance of exercising your vocal chords properly. I also discuss the importance of eating the right healthy foods to maintain a healthy voice and lifestyle. I often invite the students to my events to encourage them to continue to be disciplined and learn all they can while they're young. I have taught all ages from 4 - 98. I emphasize a well-balanced diet of classical, popular, sacred, and jazz. Students' preferences are always taken into consideration. In addition, I provide students with a solid theoretical foundation. Concentration is upon functional theory that is applicable to where the student is in their music studies.
